Special Witness: Elder Packer

Elder Packer shares of a prophecy of the Old Testament that was fulfilled in the Kirtland Temple. Listen as he bears apostolic testimony.
When the Savior appeared to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery to restore important priesthood keys, which prophets accompanied Him? How do temple ordinances enable us to have eternal families? How do keys of the restored priesthood allow families to be sealed together forever? From the Kirtland Temple in Kirtland, Ohio, President Boyd K. Packer of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles testifies of the Savior’s deep interest in providing the covenants and ordinances vital for our living and deceased family members to achieve exaltation as members of eternal families. This is a “supernal work; it is a work designed of the Lord,” President Packer declares. “The mind of man could not have conceived it.”

Special Witness: Elder Bednar

s the authority of God on the earth today? Do ordinances performed on earth apply in heaven? From the banks of the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania, Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles bears testimony of the restoration of priesthood authority and keys, affirming that the priesthood is the power of God and that through this power we are able to receive the blessings of Christ’s gospel. Elder Bednar testifies that God lives and that “Jesus is the Christ, our living Redeemer and Savior.”

Special Witness: Elder Perry

Elder Perry tells of a past experience in his life of the question, "What would the Savior do?" Listen as he shares testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Can we make a difference to others when we follow the Savior? Does the service we perform in His name make the world a better place? Elder L. Tom Perry shares an experience he had while stationed in Nagasaki, Japan, after the end of WWII. Wanting to make a difference during time off, he and other soldiers repaired Christian churches and helped the ministers begin preaching again. When Elder Perry and his companions left Japan for home, the Japanese Christians they had served came to bid them farewell in a touching display of love and gratitude. Elder Perry testifies of the Savior and His love and Atonement for each of us, declaring that “the only lasting joy and happiness we will ever find during our mortal experience will come by following the Savior, obeying His law, and keeping His commandments.”

Oaks of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles describes the Savior’s introduction of the sacrament to His Apostles and testifies that participating in the sacrament is the most important act in which Latter-day Saints participate on the Sabbath. Partaking of the sacrament helps us to remember the Savior’s sacrifice for us, renew our covenants with Him, and be cleansed from our sins. From the feet of the Christus statue on Temple Square, President Dieter F. Uchtdorf answers those questions with this declaration: “As an Apostle of the Lord, I testify that Jesus Christ lives today.” He explains how the Savior and His Atonement provide answers to our questions. Do the Abrahamic covenants apply to us today? How can we claim the blessings promised to Abraham’s lineage? From Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah, Elder Russell M. Nelson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles testifies that through our faith and works we qualify as lawful heirs to the blessings promised to Abraham and are able to receive them. This is possible only through the Savior, he says. “It is He who has made it possible for us to dwell with God, with Him, and with our families eternally.”

Special Witness: Elder Ballard

Elder Ballard bears testimony of Jesus Christ.
Who directs the modern Church? Is the gospel meant to go to all the world in the latter days? Recalling the Savior’s charge to His early Apostles, “Go ye into all the world” (Mark 16:15), Elder M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles testifies that the gospel was restored to the earth, that there are living prophets and apostles today, and that the spreading of the gospel throughout the world today is the Lord’s will. “It is by Him and through Him that our missionaries bear humble and sincere testimony. I’m a witness of that,” he says. “This is His gospel. He stands at the head—holy, divine, supreme, full of power, majesty, grace, and truth.”

Special Witness: Elder Christofferson

Elder Christofferson bears testimony that Joseph Smith saw God the Father and Jesus Christ in the Sacred Grove.
What did Joseph Smith learn from seeing and hearing God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ? How can we receive a witness of the truth of the First Vision and of the Restoration? From the Sacred Grove near Palmyra, New York, Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles testifies that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith. He shares his experience in gaining a testimony of the First Vision and declares that anyone sincerely seeking their own testimony will receive a personal witness of the truth. Elder Christofferson joins his testimony with that of the Prophet Joseph Smith in bearing witness of the living Savior. “I attest that Jesus is the Holy Messiah, who was prophesied to come and who, as further prophesied, will come again to reign upon the earth,” Elder Christofferson says. “I too bear witness that He lives.”
